Baptism Study

Baptism is an important topic to understand the background and precedents set by the Bible. For new believers, we use the baptism lesson in Green Light studies, but for our purposes in this lesson, let’s go through the scriptures in this lesson to discover the answer to several questions:

  • Why was the person baptized?
  • When were they baptized? At what point related to their point of belief?
  • Where were they baptized?
  • Who did the baptizing? What credentials did they have?
  • How were they baptized?

To complete this study, follow the these instructions:

  1. Create a grid on a piece of paper with the scriptures listed below running vertically along the left side
    • Acts 2:41
    • Acts 8:6-13
    • Acts 8:36-38
    • Acts 9:18-19
    • Acts 10:47-48
    • Acts 16:13-15
    • Acts 16:33
    • Acts 18:8
    • Acts 19:1-5
    • Acts 22:14-17
  2. Along the top of the grid, write each of these questions:
    • Why?
    • When?
    • Where?
    • Who?
    • How?
  3. In each of the spaces in the middle of the grid, if the reading gives you the answer to the questions listed at the top, enter the answer in the grid.

Discussion

Go back and use your grid to answer each of these questions and discuss together:

  • Why was the person baptized?
  • When were they baptized? At what point related to their point of belief?
  • Where were they baptized?
  • Who did the baptizing? What credentials did they have?
  • How were they baptized?

Finally, discuss together… Are there overall conclusions about baptism that you can make based on this study?

  • Why should someone be baptized?
  • When should they be baptized?
  • Where should someone be baptized?
  • Who should do the baptizing?
  • How should they be baptized?
