The Finding Your Purpose in God’s Plan course is intended to be discussed in a group, led by a leader like yourself! So first of all, thank you for considering leading this group.
This course is simple in its orientation. There are six lessons, taking the group through a study of the Bible to understand the overall story that God is telling in his word, helping us to understand how we can find our purpose within that story. We suggest that you schedule six meetings for the group, once per week for approximately 2 hours.
We suggest structuring the meetings like this:
Step 1
Pray and ask God for insight and wisdom as you read and discuss the Bible together.
Take a few minutes to worship God in song or reading of a Psalm.
Have each person share something that they are thankful for and, if needed, something that they need prayer for. Pray for each of the requests.
Step 2
Complete the study for the week. Each of the lessons are laid out in a step-by-step format, telling you precisely what to do. Simply follow the instructions.
Here is a very important component of the study: These studies are intended to be discussion-oriented, not simply taught. We encourage you to read the scriptures and then ask the questions. Encourage each person to answer each of the questions as much as possible. Don’t allow one or two individuals to dominate the discussion but instead try to involve as many people as possible in the meeting.
Step 3
At the end of each meeting, ask the group if there is something that they feel that God is asking them to do as a practical response. Our hope is that these studies will elicit a desire to serve God in practical ways.
Also ask if there is anyone with whom they could share what they have learned. Everyone needs to find their purpose in God’s plan!
Finally, finish the meeting in prayer, asking God to continue to teach and guide you in this week.
Next Steps
After you have finished the six lessons, please get back in touch with us! We would love to continue to meet with you, helping your group to continue to grow by making these lessons very practical, showing you how you can multiply, creating more leaders who will be equipped to share with others and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
