Search Party works with local partners to train and assist people who desire to fully become followers of Jesus. By doing this, we seek to help people learn what Jesus said to do and to teach them to do it themselves, ultimately to help them learn to teach many others to do the same. We believe that this is the plan that Jesus used, teaching a few at a time to follow him closely, helping them to understand what it means to be faithful and obedient, and then watching them grow as they move forward in their faith. Just as Jesus therefore made a movement of disciples, we also plan to teach a few, who will teach a few, who will ultimately do the same to reach many people.
We call ourselves Search Party for a couple of reasons. First, we are searching for those who desire to be faithful and obedient to the commands of Jesus. These are the people we want to work closely with and help them to do even more of what they are already doing.
Second, in everyday terms, a search party is a group of people who are put together to go out and find those who are lost and ready to come home. When a child is lost in the woods, hikers are stranded on a mountain, or someone is lost at sea, a search party is formed for the purpose of finding them and bringing them home. This seems reminiscent of the words of Jesus when he said that he would leave the ninety-nine sheep to bring home one. This is the aim of this Search Party, to go looking for all who are lost and wish to be found.
